Argon-Helium Mixtures -- Praxair's HeliStar® Blends
The HeliStar® argon/helium blends are used in a wide variety of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW or TIG) applications where increased heat input to the base material is desirable while maintaining favorable arc starting and stability characteristics. The Praxair HeliStar A-75, A-50, and A-25 blends can also be used for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW or MIG) of thick aluminum sections and for other non-ferrous materials where additional heat input to the base material enhances welding performance.
Principal Applications
HeliStarblends are used for TIG welding of light gauge steel, stainless steel, and aluminum applications such as bicycle frames, food service equipment and recreational boats. The heavier aluminum and copper section materials found in tanks and electrical equipment are joined using the MIG process and HeliStar gas mixtures.
HeliStar
A-25
Gas Blend
This blend is used for welding non-ferrous base metals when an increase in heat input is needed and weld bead appearance is of primary importance.
HeliStar A-50 Gas Blend
This blend is used primarily for high-speed mechanized welding of non-ferrous materials under 3/4 inch thick.
HeliStar A-75 Gas Blend
This blend is used for mechanized welding of aluminum greater than one inch thick in the flat position. It increases heat input and reduces porosity of welds in copper.
