Carbon Dioxide (Co2)

Carbon Dioxide, CO2, is a tasteless, colorless, odorless, nonflammable, liquefied gas. Carbon dioxide is an integral part of the basic life cycle in nature. It is exhaled by humans and animals, then used by plants to help them grow. Plants, in turn, release oxygen, which people depend on for survival.

Unlike atmospheric gases, air separation is not the primary source of carbon dioxide. Though sometimes it is derived from directly combusting a fuel, the most economical way to produce carbon dioxide is to recover it as a byproduct from other companies' manufacturing processes or from natural wells. Then it is purified and liquefied and sold to our customers worldwide.

Applications
Food processing applications: a natural anti-microbial, carbon dioxide is used to increase the shelf life of many food products.

Environmental applications: as an alternative to sulfuric acid for pH balance control; and for chromatography and extraction applications.

Instrumentation gas used in atomic absorption for elemental analysis.

Used in optical spectrometry as a component in an instrumentation gas mixture.

Used as a component in laser gas mixtures.

Component in calibration gas mixtures for environmental monitoring systems.

Medical applications: close-to-physiologic atmospheres for the operation of artificial organs and as a component in a mixture of oxygen or air as respiratory stimulant to promote deep breathing.

Semiconductor applications: chemical vapor deposition of silicon dioxide.

Used as a supercritical fluid in both chromatography and extraction applications; used to implant trace components or color dyes to various polymers.
